With a Midas touch that’s green, not gold, Alchemy founder and creative director, Eli Reich’s first experiment was to invent a messenger bag made from scrap yard leftovers, bike tubes and other random bobs that could be recycled.
Reich’s unusual quest was borne from a personal loss – his own messenger bag had just been stolen. The replacement needed to be sturdy, waterproof (for anyone living in Seattle, where it really rains) aesthetically distinctive, but also environmentally sound. Not having found the ideal bag, Reich made one from an inner bike tube. Friends and eventually bike shops all enquired about his unique bag and the rest, as they say, is history.
