OOTW: Green Matter

Aug 11, 2010

Fall semester. Monotone lecturers. Campus epidemics of mono. How about monochromatic outfits? We played around with a largely greyscale outfit this week, and then at the last second we decided to freshen things up with a mint-colored crew neck by Reine et Roi. Not as monochromatic as Ben Stein's voice is monotone, but possibly just as memorable.

OOTW: Storm troopin'.

May 18, 2010

Our focus goes to the men, this time, maybe because we have Iron Man 2 on the brain. (Did anybody else's eyes bug out when Larry Ellison made a cameo? Before Stan Lee? Movie franchising is defying expectations these days!) Based on what our own customers have been buying, it looks like guys like simple up top with specially selected shoes and accessories to portray their personalities.

The Denim Guy digs Alley Collection

May 6, 2010

Alley Collection The Denim Guy MoxsieThe world can't seem to get enough of Alley Collection's rise to prominence: the love story that dates back to grade school, the fact that Alley clothing addresses a challenge met by muscular men who can't find clothes that fit, the namesake of the brand - head couple's rottweiler (Alley).

The Denim Guy just picked up on the scoop, and they love Alley for the same reasons we do:

Combining John’s background as a Bay Area Firefighter with Laura’s upbringing around the family farm, a rough element of canvas and duck were transformed into stylish outerwear while soft twill was made into edgy fitted dress shirts. Alley Collection has filled a major gap by providing urban workwear tailored specifically for the athletic male.

Men around the world are thankful for Alley's non-boring, non-stuffy clothing. The Alley male is an approachable male, and it's about time someone did something good for the nice guy.

Coachella or Bust: Gear up for Indie-O

Apr 13, 2010

What's the point of owning awesome clothes if you don't wear them in awesome places? We're jealous of everyone making the trek to Indio this weekend for MGMT, Jay-Z, De La Soul, and (maybe) Thom Yorke - but we're looking forward to your recaps! If it's your first time at Coachella, be aware that the desert heat is no excuse for skimping on style. Festival goers are just as diehard about their outfits as they are about their music, so be prepared!

P.S. HYDRATE.

Coachella Women's clothing shoes accessories Moxsie

Dolce Vita Vita Judy Yellow Dress - Dress light and layer. It's the way to deal with desert extremes. And it's more fun to dance in.
Anything Super! - That sun is no joke.
Matiko Emma in Natural
- Coachella takes place on a bunch of polo fields. It's dusty. And you're going to want to let your feet breathe.
Pretty Little Thing Flying Swallow Necklace - Layer your necklaces, or go for an opera length chain.
Skinny Vinny Nikko in Grey
- You'll need a handy dandy water bottle holder. Plus, how else are you going to store your schwag?

Coachella Men's clothing shoes accessories Moxsie

Vestal - Bring a watch, and make sure it's from a timekeeping company that was inspired by music. Hitting up your list of must-see acts isn't going to be successful if you don't countdown to Passion Pit's set.
Marine Layer - Polos for the polo fields! Get it?...
Eskuche - It may seem strange, but festival goers still bring their own music to listen to at Coachella. If you're going to join the bandwagon, you may as well be the coolest kid in the tent with retro-industrial eskuches.
Unruly Heir - Shorts: Check.
Generic Surplus - Casual, comfortable, and on-point with this year's "I'm [still] on a boat!" theme.

The Casual Masters

Apr 12, 2010

Our latest men's arrivals embody what we look for in Moxsie's offerings: independent companies, forward-thinking design, and stuff you can actually wear. Supporting "independent design" can be a challenge. To the masses, anything "independent" means experimental and avant-garde in a non-wearable way. We carefully curate the Moxsie collection so that what you see in Browse is also something you can see yourself in.

CAMPER shoes have been around for four-plus generations. Crafted in Spain, it's a true family brand that we're extremely proud to host. Each pair is comfortable and sustainably produced - evidence that with its storied reputation, Camper will continue with a legacy.

VIVID BRAILLE is a breath of fresh air in an industry saturated with "designers" abusing their Photshop "skills." The world of graphic tees is overrun with mediocre prints, but here's Vivid Braille to remind us that design should be valued.

VESTAL watches are for the musically inclined. Music artists and active sports athletes have been buckling Vestal to their wrists for years. These days, it can't hurt to wear a watch on the daily. Career coaches everywhere still recommend strapping on a timepiece for your interviews - planned or not.

Guest Blog: Shop the Spring Trends on Moxsie

Mar 22, 2010

MISS Omni Media MoxsieHere at Moxsie we've got scores of blogs and sites that we frequent on the regular. For our more street-savvy stylings, MISS Omni Media tops that list. We were ecstatic that Co-Founder and Editor in Chief Gabriella Davi-Khorasanee could find the time in her busy schedule to kick off our first guest blog series. Scroll on to discover Gabriella's take on preparing for spring with Moxsie!

Several times a year, the fashion world gathers in hubs across the world to see the new collections and decree what will be hot in six months’ time. Without fail, trends pop up in many collections – some are seasonal mainstays like plaid in the fall.  Others have more to do with what’s “in the air”, i.e., going on in pop culture or in society.

The big trends for Spring 2010 include minimalism, florals, and military styles.  Luckily, you can be on trend with just a few updates to your wardrobe – and you can do it all on Moxsie!

Everyday or Eternal Moxsie Lori Cut Out TunicLess Is More - Minimalism

Minimalism is a classic look that has a resurgence every few years.  The misconception about minimalism is that it’s masculine or boring – and nothing can be farther from the truth.  Minimalism is one of my favorite looks because the clothing lets the person wearing them shine – not the other way around.

Some of my favorite minimalist pieces on Moxsie that prove how sexy minimalism can be are Everyday or Eternal’s Lori Cut Out Tunic and Lamixx’s Off the Shoulder Dress.  A little hint of shoulder can go a long way in letting the imagination run.

If you like to dress a with more pizzazz, you can always go with simple accessories with clean lines like Skinny Vinny’s Totara Tote Bag.  Whatever way you decide to wear it, spring is definitely the time for “less is more.”
