Frolick Jewelry meets the Lazy Environmentalist

May 25, 2010 9:05:47 PM

Blue Medallion Double Necklace Frolick Jewelry MoxsieIf you get the Sundance Channel, tune in tonight at 8! Josh Dorfman, AKA: The Lazy Environmentalist, worked with Adrienne L. Wiley of Moxsie's own Frolick Jewelry to develop a more eco-friendly approach to jewelry. For Adrienne, her two big concerns in using eco-conscious materials were the accessibility of finding eco materials again and again, and how consistent the look and feel of eco materials are when they come from different sources. These are practical concerns for any modern day maker, whether it's a jewelry designer, clothing label, or even a car mechanic.

Did the Lazy Environmentalist find a way to make Frolick more green? Find out tonight in Season 2 Episode 6 of the Lazy Environmentalist!

Happy Earth Day!

Apr 22, 2010 6:40:43 PM

On April 22nd, the U.S. celebrates Earth Day - but did you know we try to work eco conscious consumerism into what we offer on Moxsie every day? A significant number of our vendors use repurposed materials, organic textiles, or have social consciousness built into their company missions. Here's a quick tour of Moxsie's greener pastures:

Eco Shop Earth Day Moxsie

We started Moxsie's Eco Shop in October of 2009, and since then it's been the home for more pieces of apparel and accessories than you thought sustainably possible.

Sierra Club Earth Day MoxsieWhen we went around the table to come up with our most respected charities, Sierra Club was one of our first suggestions. Since then it's been one of more than a dozen Moxsie Support Charities that we enable shoppers to donate to - of course at no cost to the shopper. Since 1892, the Sierra Club has worked to protect the planet, its communities, and its wild habitats, and is one of the most prominent green organizations in the world today.

See our CEO's back story on our Supported Charities here.

Kicking off Earth Week

Apr 19, 2010 7:52:16 PM

The United States recognizes Earth Day on the 22nd, which is this Thursday! Footwear News of Women's Wear Daily did a roundup of eco-conscious efforts by shoe designers and retailers, including yours truly:

Not long after indie Website Moxsie.com debuted in 2009, CEO Jon Farhner discovered that the company could serve its eco-minded shoppers even better. He saw that many of his customers wanted organic fabrics and socially conscious manufacturing.

“We realized, this is not just a category within indie fashion, this is parallel to indie fashion, even predominant,” he said. “There’s got to be customers who only want to look at this stuff.”

That's why we created the Moxsie Eco Shop, and that's also the philosophy we use in selecting every designer we bring to the site. Take a look at your daily routine this week, and think about how it impacts the earth. Small changes can make a big difference, and we hope you'll join us in supporting our brands, not only for their awesome designs, but also for their sustainability efforts.

WWD Eco Shop Talk

Jan 13, 2010 6:07:12 PM

Women's Wear Daily WWD Shop Talk Moxsie Eco ShopWomen's Wear Daily featured Moxsie's Eco Shop in its latest edition of Shop Talk.

The move, said CEO Jon Farhner, was a natural extension for the Moxsie.com brand. “It was important for Moxsie to open the ‘cyber door’ to the Eco Shop because independent fashion designers have historically been extremely passionate about environmental and humanitarian causes,” said Farhner. “In our merchandise category and to many of our shoppers, living green is the only life they know.”

We're quite proud of our Eco Shop. On top of our independent designer selection and regular donations to charities, the Eco Shop has given our customers yet another way to be more conscientious of what they buy and how they're buying it.

Those of you who watch the site like hawks might be interested to know that we're actually getting two new jewelry brands in this week, one of which has a dedicatedly eco line. We can't wait to show off the ways they're revolutionizing jewelrymaking!

Is everybody in? Keep is about to begin.

Keep's kitten pictured with the Benten Houndstooth and Red CheckWhat would happen if Wavy Gravy rolled a wheelbarrow full of laced granola bars into a crowded skate park? We’ll tell you – Keep Footwear would happen. Moxsie has decided that somewhere on the side of the road between Haight Street and Ocean Beach there must be Camp Keep. (They are actually headquartered in LA, but you wouldn't have guessed that) Imagine orchards overpopulated with clowns and pets and pairs of Keep shoes hanging from the trees. The music playing through a Woodstock-style PA is anything from the 60’s and 70’s. The only modern era group on the Keep play list is probably Phish. Yes, this colony is fueled by tunes, veggies and microbrew. Every night the Keep staff probably takes a “Simpsons” break at 7 pm.
