High-end style without breaking the bank

Feb 6, 2010 12:10:20 AM

It's a rite of passage when you splurge triple digits for something you really, really want. Not to sound like a nagging parent here, but if we all did that all the time, we wouldn't have much money left to keep the lights on, would we? Here are a couple of high-end designer trends that we think will last - and our much more affordable Moxsie suggestions.

We like this Foley + Corinna bag, particularly for its height. With tall bags like these, you're only going to fill half of the bag with your belongings so that the top straps can fold mid-way and hang over like a flap. Should you need to shelter a folder from the storm, though, you could probably fit it in and shoulder the bag at the handles. Our main problem with the bag? The price: $444.

For $78, this Tulu Kipp Fold Over Messenger isn't going to make you feel like you have to buckle it into the child seat during a road trip, and it's just as stylish as its exorbitantly priced counterpart.

These Dolce Vita boots look awesome adorned in chains, and metal-embellished leather is a hot look for fall. As with many pointedly ornate pieces, though, that makes these boots "occasion" shoes, and if your mother were around, she'd say, "And how often are you going to wear those?" The price tag on these two will probably make you think twice even sans Mom: $202.

Accessorized accessories are making their way through all genres of fashion, which is why Moxsie picked up on The 2 Bandits. Pieces like the $70 Riders Harness below help you add special occasion flair to the everyday basic you already own. That type of convertible thinking helps you achieve the look you want, experiment without having to sacrifice anything permanently, and save money.

Moxsie Women's Forecast for 2010

Jan 13, 2010 9:22:29 PM

We asked Diana, style forecaster extraordinaire, to give us her two cents on what this year's trends will bring us. Diana comes with years of experience in fashion merchandising and marketing. Plus she has piles of Bazaar, WWD, and every other title else at her arsenal.

Moxsie Ultra Femme 2010 Women's

Girly girl gone good. Soft, ultra feminine colors ready to be the neon accents of last year. Frills are fun, and you shouldn't be afraid to don leather in warmer days. Textures should be played with: lace, sheers, and surprises like lingerie as outerwear. Below, we've picked out the softer side of Moxsie's pieces, but Diana has also seen bolder combinations on the runway.

Moxsie Superwoman 2010 Women's

Angles, girl! Be not afraid of bold silhouettes and standout cutouts. Shoulders with embellishments, lazer prints, and eyecatching colors define a woman with strong confidence. A lot of the pieces in our Edgy shop would fall into this super category. (And, of course, our Supers, too.)

Moxsie Global Ethnic Multicultural Femme 2010 Women's

Multicultural influences make their way through all facets of fashion - from the clothing to the shoes to the accessories. "Ethnic" does not mean we're limited to safari looks, as often touted by fashion editorial, but also the Native American aesthetic with bits like chevrons and repeated patterns.

If Diana's on the money, Moxsie's off to a great start with our current selection of brands and designers. We won't be resting on our laurels, though. Rumor has it two new jewelry lines and more sneakers will be available by next week, and we're already scheduling for hitting the pavement to find more of the best in independent designers.

Gentlemen, no need to feel left out. Stay tuned for our men's style forecast!
