Demano was started in 1999 in Barcelona by architects Liliana Andrade, Marcela Manrique and Eleonora Parachini. Originally from Columbia, they came to Barcelona on a vacation and stayed on to make the city their home. They were astonished by the scale of waste on Barcelona’s streets which included discarded advertising banners made from PVC, a material that is waterproof, resistant and flexible and ideal for city bags! The idea of Demano was born, and the founders set out to sign exclusive license agreements with museums and other prominent institutions to use the copyrighted advertising materials.

With local support, the brand expanded rapidly in Spain, and by 2004, had reached an international audience. In 2007, Demano switched its materials and started using environmentally respectful materials that tell a story about Barcelona. Their background in architecture helps them create their one of a kind purses and handbags – who else would use AutoCad (software used by architects) to design purses?
